JAMMU: Police, on Friday, recovered over Rs 18 lakh from various parts of Rajouri District.
According to a senior police officer the seizure comes during checking at various Nakas raised in the entire district. He said vigil on suspicious and unwanted activities have been tightened ahead of Assembly polls.
“This afternoon, police while checking of suspicious cases, recovered Rs 18.80 lakh from check points in Kalakote area of Rajouri District.
“We have recovered the amount and handed it over to the flying squad team of Election Commission (EC) along with the persons to whom the money belonged for verification,” Haseeb Mughal, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri said.
Mughal said if the money was meant for election purpose, case would be registered accordingly but if it belongs to individuals, decision would be taken after completing the formalities and verifying the matter.
“We have directed the cops to remain alert and keep vigil on such
activities so that election procedure does not get disturbed,” said the police officer.
