JAMMU: Border Security Force (BSF) troops have seized two packets of contraband, suspected to be heroin, along the International Border (IB) in Ferozpur sector of Punjab.
Based on specific information about concealment of narcotics in fields ahead of the security fence near IB, a special operation was carried out by BSF troops  in the area, BSF DIG RS Kataria said.
At about 0915 hours, the search party recovered two packets (approximately two kilograms) of the contraband, suspected to be heroin, between IB and Border Security Fence, the DIG said.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of the border due to the harvesting season and heightened activities of smugglers and anti-national elements, Inspector General, BSF, Punjab Frontier, Anil Paliwal has issued operational guidelines to all the sectors under Punjab Frontier for further strengthening the border domination so as to effectively check activities of anti-national elements.
Accordingly, DIG, BSF (Ferozepur), RK Thapa directed Field Commanders to step up vigil on the border in order to thwart the attempts of anti-national elements.
“Tactical operations are being mounted to foil the attempts of smugglers and anti-national elements,” he said.
The enhanced vigil by BSF troops has once again thwarted the attempt of smugglers and anti-national elements to smuggle contraband items into the country, the DIG said.
Meanwhile, an official said that the estimated value of the heroin seized is about Rs 10 crore in the international market.
