RR Patil Foundation challenges Maharashtra’s move on dance bars

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: RR Patil Foundation, through its President Vinod Patil has filed writ petition No. 24 of 2017 before the Supreme Court, thereby challenging the constitutionality of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance in Hotels, Restaurants and Protection of Dignity of Women (Working therein) Act 2016 and Rules 2016.
It is contended that the State Government should have, firstly not changed its stand on the issue of ban on dance bars in Maharashtra and should have supported the amended Act providing complete ban and secondly, should have made stringent conditions in the new act in case the same is being permitted to operate. It is contended that, no dance bar should be within close proximity of Schools, colleges, places of worships, hospitals etc; stringent condition should be imposed for violators including punishment for imprisonment up to minimum 7 years, amongst others.
The matter was taken up by the Bench of Justice Dipak Mishra and Justice R Banumathi on Tuesday.
Upon hearing the submissions advanced, the Court has been agreed to hear the matter and placed the same with petition filed by the hotels association.
Advocate Sandeep Deshmukh and Advocate Nar Hari Singh appeared for RR Patil Foundation.
