JAMMU: A close associate of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and currently Chairman of Whitchurch Cricket Club and Shropshire Cricket Board Coaches Association, UK, Rodney Jones arrived in Jammu on Saturday, on a short visit mainly aimed at interacting with young cricket aspirants from Jammu at Yuvraj Singh Cricket Academy located at KC Sports Club.
Managing Director of KC Sports Club, Arjun Chowdhary is an exchange programme alumnus of Ellesmere College, UK where he had the opportunity to train with Jones for quite some time.
Jones is a versatile cricketer who has played for Whitchurch Cricket Club in the Birmingham and District Premier League.
Recipient of ECB Award for his distinguished achievements as an assessor and a coach, he has also been decorated with other awards such as Sky Sports Coaching Award 2007 and Shropshire Sports Partnerships Award 2003.
Also a trained and qualified Coach in Football, Jones is currently engaged in imparting coaching in both Cricket and Football in some of the well known schools in England including Ellesmere College.
During his stay of about 14 days in Jammu, Jones intends to interact with young cricket enthusiasts of Jammu through a series of workshops and training sessions at the Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence.
Jones will also train the students of KC Public School during his stay in the city.
It is a precious opportunity for the youngsters of Jammu to interact with him and gain valuable knowledge and skills under his guidance.
It is pertinent to mention that the Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence is located at KC Sports Club where students have the opportunity to practice both outdoors and also indoors. The Indoor Cricket Centre is a spacious 15,000 sq area and houses nine wickets which includes five fast and four spin lanes. The wickets are imported from Tiger Turf, New Zealand.
Apart from the wickets the centre also has two Bola Bowling Machines (imported from UK) which will help the batsmen with various deliveries ranging from 30 miles to 99 miles. It also has the option of spin and swing to help the batsmen hone their skills.
Apart from coaching, the Indoor Cricket Hall also provides the opportunity for the people of Jammu to play Indoor Night Cricket. Indoor Cricket is an ICC approved form of cricket and videos of it are available online. It is for the first time that such an opportunity is being provided in the city.
