Relief operation continues by army as fresh landslide hamper restoration work

RAMBAN: As relief and rescue operation continued on Sunday, fresh landslide at Ramsu hampered the reconstruction work of Border Roads Organisation. Jammu – Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the eleventh consecutive day.

In all 10,126 people were evacuated at Ramsu by the Delta Force of Rashtriya Rifles. 7,000 food packets were distributed to the stranded people, while 4,150 were provided hot meals. Approx 7,000 litres of water was made available to the people. Medical assistance was provided to 1,648 people who were thankful to the Army for their safety.

Occurrence of fresh landslide at Ramsu, late night on Saturday, was a setback to the BRO whose reconstruction work received a major setback at a time when the Highway was about to be restored. The Army immediately swung into action and set to construct a foot bridge over Bichleri Nala to enable locals to cross over to safe areas, PRO (Defence) Jammu, Lt Col Manish Mehta said.

Trouble for people increased as the only foot track across mountain was damaged due to fresh landslides. Alternate track was constructed by the Rashtriya Rifles and rescue operations were resumed.
