Region takes to mat; bend, twist mark International Yoga Day

UDHAMPUR: Observing the First International Yoga Day, all ranks participated in the Yoga Day events organised at Udhampur Garrison. A yoga demonstration and participation camp was held at Bikram Park which was attended by a large number of serving personnel. Under the guidence of instructors, all ranks participated with great interest and enthusiasm in various yoga exercises and Asanas.
A large number of troops have experienced improvement in their physical attributes and weaponry skills after undertaking regular yoga exercises. Armies of many developed counties use it to reduce combat stress and improve operational efficiency and prolonged alertness.
Various yoga related activities on the day were also undertaken by other army units and formations of the Northern Command across the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir including Ladakh.
Bhartiya College of Education, Udhampur celebrated International Yoga Day in the college premises . About 300 students along with college faculty practiced Yog Asanas being demonstrated by Yoga Expert Sunil Sharma and his team from Art of Living . The various Asanas practiced in the session include Anulom Bilom, Pranayam, Pawan Mukt Asan, Bhujang Asan, Sheersh Asan, Meditation, etc.
Prof Sukham Chand ,Principal of the College highlighted the importance of yoga especially in the present age where life has become more hectic and stressful.
Meanwhile, students, staff, parents and management committee members performed yoga from 5:45 to 8:00 AM at Mini Stadium Udhampur organised by Patanjali Yog Peeth Udhampur in a function on the eve of celebration of International Yoga Day.
In this function Dina Nath Bhagat MLA Chenani was the Chief Guest besides dignitaries of Udhampur led demonstration for various yogic Kriyas performed by the student of BVM high school Udhampur.
On the eve of 1st International Day of Yoga which is celebrated on 21st June 2015 on the occasion a District Yoga Championship was held at Subash Stadium Udhampur.
At the end of the Yoga championship the medals were distributed among the boys/ girls who participated in the said championship besides national level players were also felicitated by Anil Gupta Indian Yoga Team Coach and International Referee.
In the said championship the boys/ girls were felicitated with the medals include Simran Devi, Shamsher Singh, Anu Radha, Monika, Lachpal Raj, Anil Kumar, Aayush Attri, Rajinder Singh, Sunil Singh, Poonam, Parhas, Vishal, Kamlesh Kumari, Ankit Sharma and Shipali Sharma.
In the end Anil Gupta has stressed upon the new generation to take part in yoga in a large number for the betterment of the life.
RAJOURI: The National Development Organisation organised International Day of Yoga from 7:00 to 7:33 AM along with other organisations. The local people of Rajouri participated the programme besides Sarpanchs, Panchs. Shabir Ahmed Malik, SarpanchThanamang, Zakir Malik Sarpanch Madoon and Arshad Malik Sarpanch Topa were also present.
The Kissan Parvarish Society Darhal Malkan also attended the function at Rajouri. President of the Society Mohd Qayoom Malik thanked the peoples for participation .
Meanwhile, Nehru Yuva Kendra Rajouri Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Govt. of India organised International Day of Yoga at PWD Dak Bunglow Ground Rajouri from 7:00 to 7.35 AM . Vibodh Gupta Member of Legislative Council Rajouri was the Chief Guest of the programme and Chowdhary Kamar Ali Member of Legislative Assembly Rajouri and Additional District Development Commissioner Rajouri Beerjee Hangloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Chowdhary Mumtaz Hussain were the Guests of Honour on the occassion. The citizens of Rajouri town, members of Youth Clubs, Mahilla Mandals, National Youth Corps, volunteers and officers from different departments also participated.
VIJAYPUR: On the eve of Yoga Day, a special Yoga class was organised in Police Technical Training Institute, Vijaypur. The yoga practice was conducted under the guidance of yoga instructor, Nek Ram in Parade Ground of the Institute, in two sessions, one from 5:30 to 6:30 AM and another from 7:00 to 8:00 AM. He appraised the importance of yoga for maintenance of health and also various health tips to the participants.
Ranjlt Kanwar, SSP (Principal-PTTI Vijaypur) along with other GGs, staff/trainees of this institute participated in the event. Family members, relatives and friends of staff of training Institute and locals were also invited to participate In the yoga class irrespective of any age bar.
MENDHAR: Romeo Force Headquarters and its Rashtriya Rifles Battalions actively participated in the World Yoga Day. Yoga was organised at various locations in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch like Palma, Manjakote, Thanamandi, Topa, Basoni, Daraba, Surankote and Mendhar. Around 3,684 army personnel including officers , junior commissioned officers and jawans participated in the event. Troops have been preparing for the event for the last one week and got motivated to continue with yoga along with the other physical exercises done by them.
KATRA: As part of celebration of the International Day of Yoga, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organised a mega yoga event at its Multipurpose Sports Stadium at Katra, the Base Town for pilgrimage to the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji.
A large number of children, prominent citizens, people of the area, pilgrims, officers and staff of the Shrine Board and officers and jawans of CRPF participated in the event.
Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, who was the Chief Guest on this occasion, inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
The CEO also felicitated Karan Singh of Panthal for his outstanding performance in the sabre event of fencing championship in the National School Games held at Jalgaon in Maharashtra in 2014 and Ishika Wazir, a student of DPS, Katra for her appreciable performance in the State level Yoga championship. He also presented a memento to Dayal Ram, a Yoga Expert, who conducted today’s event comprising various yoga Asanas.
Dr. M. K Kumar, Additional Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, thanked all the participants.
Anil Chandel, SDM, Katra, Sumir Kotwal, Additional SP, Katra and B. R Jakhar, Dy. Commandant, 6th Bn. CRPF were among those who participated in the yoga event.
KATHUA: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kathua in collaboration with district administration, Ayush, Art of living, Youth Clubs, Mahila Mandals, organised a district level function at Sports Stadium, Kathua in which over 1,400 participants including children, students, young, old, officials participated and performed yoga exercises.
Rajiv Jasrotia, MLA Kathua was Chief Guest and Ajay Singh Jamwal, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua was Guest of Honour. Various senior officials of district administration and prominent citizens of Kathua participated and performed yoga Assans.
Som Datt Zard, District Youth Coordinator, NYK Kathua extended warm welcome to Chief Guest and other guests and participants.

Meanwhile, on the eve of International Yoga Day, the nine days Yoga camp which started on 13th June 2015 concluded at SPS Police Training School Kathua with flying colour. The mega event was jointly organised by 1st Armed Sqn. NCC and Police Training School Kathua. The workshop was also attended by 15 instructors of Patanjali Yog Peeth and Kapoor Singh demonstrated various Asans to the participants. The workshop was attended by the NCC Cadets numbering 1,310 and the staff members of Police Training School Kathua. The Principal of SPS PTS Kathua Sanjeev Khajuria was the Guest of Honour of the event. Vote of thanks was given by Lt. Col. Raj Mohan Singh 1st Armed Sqn. NCC.
121 BN CRPF organised International Yoga Day Yoga for harmony and peace at District Police Line Kathua in which 116 Jawan and officers attend the yoga class. The Chief Guest T. R Sharma among the CRPF officers S.S Rana Commandant-121 Bn, , Nisar Mohd. 2-In-Charge, K.L Dhiman D/Comdt, V.S Rawat A/C, Om Prakash A/C were present.
Meanwhile, Brahma Kumaris celebrated first international Yoga Day at Kathua by organising a seminar on leading and healthy and purposeful life through Raj Yoga.
The function was organised at Sver Resorts Kathua under the guidance of Brahma Kumari Veena who is the District Head of Brahma Kumaries Centres of Kathua. Rajeev Jasrotia, MLA, Kathua was the Chief Guest whereas Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Chief Executive Officer Lakhnapur Sarthal Development Authority, Sanjeev Khajuria, SSP, PTS Kathua and Som Raj Majotra, Senior BSP Leader were the Guests of Honour on the occasion.
The Brahma Kumaris sisters BK Veena, Shashi, Santosh and others spoke about the importance of raj yoga in day to day life. They emphasized that through Raj Yoga we can achieve a healthy and stress free life.
Later the Brahma Kumaris organisation honored MLA Rajeev Jasrotia BSP Leader S.R Majotra, Jatinder Pappu Ex. Councilor, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, CEO, Lakahnpur Sarthal Development Authority, Sanjeev Khajuria, SSP, Police Training School, Kathua, Advocate Tarlok Gupta, Arya Samaj President Bishan Bharti, Bharat Bhushan Mahajan, Narinder Tangri and Chief Engineer Tilak Raj Bhagat and a galaxy of Media persons.
GOOL: GDC Gool organised awareness programme on the importance of yoga in day to day life, in the college premises.
Various students of college, school and local community were invited in the college to aware them regarding practicing yoga, as it works on the body, mind, emotion, energy and help in live life to its full potential.
On the occasion Dr. Chander Shekhar Principal of the college exhorted the students to practice yoga and also made the society aware regarding the importance and benefits of practicing yoga, as it helps in curing all types of physical and mental illness. Others who spoke the occasion, regarding the importance of yoga include Prof. Touseef Ahmed Zargar (EVS) and Prof. Bhushan Kumar (Education).
REASI: District Police Reasi also celebrated International Yoga Day and organised yoga programmes at different police units in district Reasi such as DPL Reasi Police Station Katra, Bhawan, Mahore and others in which yoga teachers were called and all the police officers and officials participated in the programme.
SUNDERBANI: On International Yoga Day many socially teams held yoga programmes in different areas of Sunderbani Block.
According to reports President of Singh Youth Club Sunderbani and President of Divya Youth Club Sunderbani Navita Sharma conducted a yoga programme early in the morning in children park Sunderbani and Army National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Swami Vishvatmanand Saraswati (SVS) Degree College Sunderbani with hundreds of men and women.
Meanwhile, Gaitry Parivaar celebrated International Yoga Day in Sunderbani.
POONCH: Govt. Degree College Poonch observed International Yoga Day in the college campus.
Prof. Tajinder Singh Principal of the College himself demonstrated the yoga exercises and the staff and the students of the college followed him.
NSS Programme Officers, Prof. Khadam Hussain and Dr. Shamim Ahmed Bandey actively mobilised all the students in general and NSS Volunteers in particular for their active participation in this International Yoga Day.
At the end, the Principal thanked all the participants for their active participation on this day.
