Cairo : Islamic rebels clashed with the Syrian forces near Israeli-controlled Golan Heights Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The observatory, in a statement, said that fighting continued throughout the day between Syrian army units and insurgents including the Al Nusra Front, an Al Qaeda affiliated group, in the province of Quneitra.
Fierce battles were reported from a border post on the edge of the Golan, while Syrian warplanes bombed the already demolished city of al-Quneitra.
Al Nusra Front fighters and their allies attacked Syrian troops in the area and there were reports of casualties on both sides, the observatory said.
The army continues its operations in the mainly rural, western province of Daraa, especially between Daraa and al-Yadouda, where Syrian troops regained control of the supply route used by the “terrorists” from Jordan to Quneitra, the observatory added.
