Rape accused flees from lock-up, 3 policemen suspended

KATRA: Three policemen were placed under suspension in Katra after an accused in a rape case escaped from a police lock up, a senior police officer said on Monday.
Three policemen including a Night Duty Officer were suspended after an under trial rape accused managed to escape from police custody in Katra.
Four persons accused of allegedly raping a 10-year old girl were arrested by the police under FIR 16/16 Section 302,364, 376 RPC of Police Station Katra. However, last night the main accused Pawan managed to give police a slip from the lockup, a police officer said.
“A Night Duty Officer and two Sentries have been placed under suspension,” SSP Reasi, Sujit Kumar said adding that they were suspended for dereliction of duty.
He said that police teams have been constituted to nab the accused.
Those suspended include Night Duty Officer ASI Sharif and two sentries Vikram Singh and SGCT Chunni Lal.
A fresh case under section 223 /224 RPC was also registered at Police Station Katra against the fled accused.
