VADODARA: All-rounder Parveez Rasool struck an unbeaten half-century as Jammu and Kashmir put up a decent batting performance to reach 266 for six in their first innings of the Ranji Trophy Group A cricket match against Baroda here on Sunday.
Put into bat by Baroda, the visitors’ top order put up a steady performance and even though wickets fell at regular interval, the team was comfortably placed at the end of the opening day.
For Baroda, left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh was the pick of the bowlers with a haul of four for 92 runs in 26 overs.
J&K, who upstaged 40-time champions Mumbai in their opening match before losing heavily to Tamil Nadu in the second, did not score at a very brisk pace with openers Shubham Khajuria and Adil Reshi putting on 93 runs in over 30 overs.
Khajuria and Reshi, however, missed out on fifties despite being patient. Both the batsmen were dismissed by Swapnil with Khajuria going for 41 and Reshi returning to the pavillion at 46.
Ian Dev Singh (38) and Bandeep Singh (37) also made decent contributions before Rasool took charge.
The all-rounder, who made his India debut during the tour of Bangladesh earlier this year, continued his rich vein of form in the domestic circuit with a 105-ball knock, which included 10 fours.
At stumps, Rasool was holding fort with Obaid Haroon (2) for the visiting team.
