Raking controversy

The controversy raked up by former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah is yet to cool down former Union Minister P Chidambaram has expressed his ‘sinking feeling’ about Kashmir  as he claimed that Central Government used brute force to quell the dissent in Jammu and Kashmir. Chidambaram feared the situation would worsen if the Centre did not take up course correction like what was done by the Cabinet Committee on Security in 2010. The graph of violence rapidly declined after that, but it grew at an alarming rate now. Since the outbreak of the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir it was National Conference and Congress combine that had a long and stable tenure. At that time most of these opposition leaders were in the ruling parties  but never expressed such anguish, and as far as BJP is concerned it has come into rule only after the 2014 Parliament elections.  There was nothing wrong in Army Chief’s statement but political leaders have taken  extra mileage to garner public sympathy  in the face of isolation they are facing from masses  now. It looks the political parties especially opposition ones are trying to create an image that Kashmir is going out of India’s hand. Who is responsible for such a situation?  By coining new terminologies for Kashmir both National Conference and Congress leaders can not absolve themselves from the sins of the past. Why did not Chidambaram see the danger while in ruling party? This split tongue talks have   really been responsible for the present day Kashmir muddle and the PDP-led coalition where BJP is partner it would take some more time to clear the situation. Such irresponsible comments from people like Chidambaram and Farooq Abdullah would tantamount to promoting separatism and encouraging terrorism. For Pakistan such statement could be very soothing since it is the prime promoter of  terrorism. It could also embolden Pakistan which had been trying its best to internationalise the Kashmir issue and pave way for more disturbances.
