JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar has said that smooth conduct of elections, besides ensuring conducive atmosphere in the State is top concern for Jammu and Kashmir Police. He called for adhering to the guidelines circulated by Election Commission of India.
Rajendra was chairing a high level meeting of police and para-military officers at Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Thursday here. The meeting was convened to discuss election preparedness in Jammu Province.
Rajendra sought reports from the officers present in the meeting about the deployment of state police and central para-military forces in different areas of the Province. The officers apprised the meeting about the contingency plan and deployment of different forces for the security of candidates and polling booths. The meeting was told that the constituencies have been categorised in different zones and sections and deployments made as per the requirements and sensitiveness of the area.
Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police and District Superintendents of Police, apprised the meeting about the arrangements made by them in their respective areas.
They informed the meeting that security of contesting candidates and venue of public rallies has been sensitized and the safety of dignitaries arriving to campaign for their candidates is being reviewed on regular basis.
Other Range DIsG and district Superintendent of Police, attended the meeting through video conferencing and briefed about the election preparedness.
The DGP stressed the meeting for greater synergy among different forces and agencies deployed for election duties, saying that the coordination among all stakeholders would help to prevail a conducive atmosphere for the people to exercise their franchise. He said that JKP has a rich experience in conducting the electoral process and the force along with other sister agencies would leave no stone unturned to conduct upcoming Assembly Elections in a congenial atmosphere. Any attempt to vitiate the process would not be allowed, the DGP said.
Rajendra, while discussing the arrangements of mobility and communication, emphasised for strengthening the communication network and connectivity for quick response to any situation. He said that to provide mobility to the deployed forces, private vehicles have been hired and PHQ has circulated the modalities for hiring the vehicles which needs to be adhered in letter and spirit.
DGP asked for smooth traffic regulation on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and other routes to ensure free movement of the candidates and the people. He said that traffic movement on these routes should be monitored regularly.
Additional Directors General of Police, S.P Vaid, S.M Sahai and V.K Singh, who were present in the meeting, gave their valuable suggestions for smooth conduct of the elections.
IGP, Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar also apprised the meeting about the deployment plan of forces in different areas of the province.
The meeting was also attended by IsGP, Dr. B. Srinivas, A.K Choudhary, H. K. Lohia, Deepak Kumar, Mukesh Singh and Mubarak Ahmed Ganai, IGP BSF and IGP CRPF. DIsGP, Garib Dass, A.K Atri, Shakeel Ahmed Beig and Ali Mohammad, SSP PCR Jammu, Ashok Sharma and District Superintendents of Police, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri.
