JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar on Wednesday reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir Police would ensure the Assembly elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner and would foil any attempt by the anti-national elements to disrupt the democratic process.
Rajendra was reviewing the security arrangements put in place for second phase of Assembly elections covering nine constituencies of Jammu Province, at a high level meeting held at Police Control Room (PCR) here on Sunday afternoon. The elections for these constituencies are scheduled to be held on 2nd December, 2014.
Rajendra said that the anti-national elements would try to carryout nefarious activities but the police alongwith other security agencies are ready to foil their attempts, so that people can exercise their franchise in a peaceful atmosphere.
The DGP, at the outset of the meeting sought reports from the officers present in the meeting about the arrangements made for second phase elections in Jammu Division by the police and other para-military forces in the constituencies of Gulabgarh, Reasi, Gool Arnas, Udhampur, Chenani, Ramnagar, Surankote, Mehandar and Poonch-Haveli.
The officers apprised the meeting about the security, deployment and other arrangement for the polling booths put in place by different security agencies to conduct free and fair elections.
The meeting was told that the polling booths in the constituencies have been categorized in different sections and deployments made as per the requirements and sensitiveness of the polling booths and areas.
Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police also briefed the meeting about the arrangements made by them in their respective jurisdictions. They informed the meeting that security of polling booths have been sensitized and the safety of voters would be ensured, so that the people can exercise their franchise in a democratic manner.
Rajendra stressed the officers for greater synergy among the different forces and agencies deployed for election duties, saying that the coordination among all stakeholders would help to ensure free and fair elections in the State. He said that Nakas should be ensured by forces to check the movement of anti-national elements and joint night patrolling in hypersensitive and border areas should be conducted regularly to avert any subversive design of militants. He said that high alert needs to be ensured on the polling day, so that the process ends peacefully as was done in the first phase of elections.
Rajendra, while discussing the arrangements of communication and mobility, emphasised for strengthening the communication network and connectivity for quick response to any situation.
Earlier, the IGP Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar gave a detailed resume of the arrangements made in Jammu Province for smooth conduct of second phase elections. He said that all necessary arrangements have been put in place for the security of candidates and voters. He informed the meeting that during his visit to these constituencies, he has issued on spot instructions to the field officers to strengthen the security grid in these areas to ensure peaceful elections.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADsGP, V.K Singh and S.M Sahai, IsGP, Dr. B. Srinivas, Mukesh Singh, DIsGP, Garib Dass, A.K Atri and Shakeel Ahmed Beig, Commissioner SB, Jammu, IsGP CRPF, BSF, Dy Director IB, Jammu, SSP PCR, Ashok Kumar and SSP (APCR) Jammu, Shyam Sunder and other police officers.
