SRINAGAR: Former IGP Crime and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Raja Aijaz Ali while reacting to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s allegation that National Conference worker Haji Yosuf died in his custody in September 2011, on Friday lashed out at Omar for “trying to brazen out the accusations against him in the case.”
In a statement, he said, “Haji was subjected to psychological pressure during his three hour stay at CM’s residence which later resulted in his death. Omar has contradicted his own stand. The deceased arrived at the residence of CM at 3 pm and stayed there for more than 3 hours. CCTV footage clearly shows the hale and hearty Haji entered and was supported by two men to the vehicle while leaving,” the statement added.
“He stayed in transit custody of crime branch for 20 minutes from where he was taken to hospital where he expired,” he said and added, “It is to be asserted what psychological pressure he was subjected which led to his deteriorating condition when being carried from the CM’s residence and ultimately he succumbed to such a pressure”, the statement elaborated.
“The CM planed eyewash by appointing an enquiry commission to find out the circumstances happening at his residence which are in no way a replacement in a formal investigation under the proper sections of law,” he said.
Haji Yusuf, an NC worker from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, died on 29 September 2011.
