JAMMU: The lone goal scored by Rahul Tickoo on Friday guided MHAC Nagbani to title win in the inter-school under-14 boys’ football tournament for Coca Cola Cup KC Public School at GGM Science College Ground, here.
Earlier, the organizers, Jammu District Football Association, debarred the KC International School from playing in the final for allegedly ‘fielding’ overage players.
Important to mention here that KC International had won the semifinal played against MHAC Nagbani. In turn, Nagbani School lodged protest against overage boys played for the opponent team.
However, the decision was unacceptable to the KCIS management resulting in teacher incharge lodging a strong protest with the organising committee just before the start of final today. The teacher went to the extent saying that the school shall not be fielding its team in future events organised by the Association.
In the final and prize distribution function, former Deputy Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dharamvir Singh was Chief Guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual medals. A host of JKFA office bearers and members were among those present.
Meanwhile, the participating teams expressed their resentment with regard to little support from the organisers.
“There was no refreshment for the teams throughout the tournament, which, otherwise, was sponsored by the leading soft drinks manufacturers, Coca Cola,” said one of the team managers.
When contacted Jammu District President of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), Kuldeep Singh said, “We have not been given any financial help by the Coca Cola this time, so were helpless. Still, we have spent from the pocket to meet the day to day expenses.”
