DELHI: Displaying extraordinary skill and temperament and showing solidity, sublimity and elegance, Qamran Iqbal notched up a cracking century to guide Jammu and Kashmir to a big score of 320/7 against formidable Delhi at stumps on day-1 of the Men’s U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy at Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Stadium, Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi on Sunday. Earlier, electing to bat, J&K openers–Qazi Junaid Masood and Qamran Iqbal began their innings’ with caution and aggression and added 73 runs for the opening wicket in 24.3 overs before Qazi Junaid’s dismissal at his individual score of 38 runs, studded with 5 boundaries. Musaif Ajaz who came in at number-3 was in sublime touch from the word go and the duo made a partnership of 101 runs, taking the score to 174/2 in 48.5 overs. Musaif contributed 45 runs off 75 balls with 2 fours and 3 massive sixes. Skipper Kanhaiya Wadhawan fell cheaply at his individual score of 7 runs and the team’s total of 212/3 in 56.5 overs. However, Qamran continued brilliance with the willow, taking the bowlers on a leather hunt, smashing 10 delectable boundaries and 7 huge sixes in his knock of 147 runs off 183 balls with a strike rate of 80.33. Yawer Hassan also contributed sedate 21 runs off 66 balls with 2 hits to the fence.
Arya Thakur was at the crease on brisk 37 runs and Janib Javaid was unbeaten on 7 at the draw of stumps today.
For Delhi, left-arm spinner Rounak Waghela was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets by conceding 88 runs in his 30 overs, while speedster Akhil Choudhary bagged 2 wickets. Mayank Gossain and Divij Mehra claimed one wicket each.
