NEW DELHI: The five–day annual Punjabi Theatre Festival
organised by Punjabi Academy, Delhi will commence on 17th
November, 2014 showcasing best of Punjabi theatre at Sri Ram
Centre of Art and Culture here.
The academy under the aegis of Department of Art, Culture
and Languages, Government of Delhi has been instrumental in
putting together the best of Punjabi Theatre at one platform.
Every year, a large number of artists from all corners of the
country fill Delhi with colour, music, dance, drama, flavour and
fervour as Delhi celebrates series of events. Punjabi Theatre
Festival is one glowing example of various programmes
organised by Punjabi Academy.
On 17th November, Punjabi Theatre Festival will stage ‘Kujh
Afsaney’, a play based on four tales of Saadat Hasan Manto’s
BU, Thanda Gosht, Dhuan and Kaali Shalwar, the most talked
about work of Manto has been adapted and dramatised under the
direction of Kuljit Singh a well known theatre personality.
Commenting on the festival, Jawahar Dhawan, Secretary
Punjabi Academy said, “Punjabi Academy has been at the
forefront in promoting the best of Punjabi culture, amongst which
theatre has a strong connect with the public, as always we are
expecting that Delhites will love and appreciate our effort.”
Further elaborating, S.S Yadav, Secretary, Department of
Art, Culture and Languages, Government of NCT of Delhi said, “It
has been our constant endeavour to present the best of cultural
events in the national capital.”
