JAMMU: Title holders Punjab shall be playing against Tamil Nadu in the final at 11:00 AM to defend the title trophy in the ongoing 62nd National School Games Under-19 Football Championship, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI), at BSF Stadium, here tomorrow.
In the title clash, Minister of State for Sports, Sunil Kumar Sharma has consented to be the Chief Guest, while Secretary Youth Servicers and Sports will be the Guest of Honour.
In the semi-final, played on Friday, Punjab defeated Uttar Pradesh by three goals to nil in an easy contest.
Punjab dominated the game throughout and made splendid moves to keep the opposition under pressure. Rohit Jhamat scored two goals in 36th and 65th minutes while Mohd Danish improved the tally netting the ball in the 70th minute of the match.
In other semi-final, Tamil Nadu got better of KVS 4-2 in a close contest that was decided via tie-breaker. None of the teams could manage to score in the stipulated time and even failed to bring in the result in extra time to pave way for the penalty shootouts. In tie-breaker, Tamil Nadu prevailed over KVS. For Tamil Nadu, H Madhav, Vignesh, B Allanda and Suhail Basha were the scorers while Jassulua and Avleen netted the ball from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Uttar Pradesh defeated Rajasthan 2-0. Akleem Khan pelted the first goal in 49th minute, while Manoj M. netted the second in the 61st minute. Punjab outplayed Chandigarh by a solitary goal and the goal was scored by Manjinder Singh in the 63rd minute.
The KVS got better of Chhattisgarh by four goals to three 4-3 via tie-breaker. Abhik, Arun, Jassi and Vivek were the goal scorers for KVS, while B Gourav, Abhishek Dubey and Pranay Bahadur netted the goals for Chhattisgarh. Earlier, the match ended in a goalless draw. In other quarterfinal, Tamil Nadu defeated Jharkhand 4-3 via tie-breaker.
The semi-finals were officiated by the technical panel including A.R Paddar, Showkat Waza, Tariq Ahmed Khan, Mohd Shafi, Vipin Kumar, Sanjay Verma, Danesh Singh, Sarfaraz Nabi, Nisar Hussain and Vivek Slathia.
