Project VIJAYAK started clearing snow beyond zero point

KARGIL: Project VIJAYAK of BRO which is working on the snow clearance of 434 km long Srinagar-Leh National Highway from Drass to Zero Point Gumri has started clearing snow from NH1D from Zero Point Gumri towards Srinagar today.

This was stated by Col P Kumar, Commander BRTF Kargil while talking to reporters.

“Project VIJAYAK completed its work on 17th of April 2015 and the snow clearance work from Srinagar Side by Project Beacon is still pending which has to do snow clearance wok upto Zero Point from Srinagar Side,” he informed adding that Project VIJAYAK after clearing all avalanches on its side and after widening the road for two vehicles on its side, besides standing idle, started helping its sister organization, Project Beacon so that NH1D will open early and this also help the people of Ladakh who remains cutoff from the rest of the country from about last 4 months.

This act of Project VIJAYAK has increased the hope of opening of Srinagar Leh National Highway fewdays before expected.

Earlier CEC LAHDC Kargil Haji Mohammad Hanifa Jan has directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil and SDM Drass to give permission those who ae willing to travel through Zojjila on their own risk and they have to travel through vehicle upto Zero Point from which they have to travel on foot and 35 people crossed from Kargil to Srinagar and 15 crossed vice versa.
