Prof Abha Chauhan elected as Secretary Indian Sociological Society

JAMMU: The Head, Department of Sociology University of Jammu, Prof Abha Chauhan was elected Secretary, Indian Sociological Society (ISS). The results of which were announced at the ISS Headquarter in New Delhi on 31st Dec. 2015.
History of ISS was created as she, along with another woman colleague Professor Sujata Patel from the Central University of Hyderabad who was elected President, ISS occupied the two prestigious positions for the first time.
In all, one President, one Secretary and five Members, Managing Committee were elected to the office of Indian Sociological Society. For the post of Secretary there were five contestants.
A total of nearly 1400 votes were polled from all over the country (around 65 votes were invalid). Professor Abha Chauhan secured 387 votes, while the rest of the four contestants for the post of Secretary got 304,245,180 and 171 votes respectively. This is perhaps the biggest margin in the last several years of ISS elections. Professor Abha Chauhan has been an active member and Office Bearer of the International Sociological Association.
Earlier she was Member, Managing Committee, ISS and Convenor, Research Committee 10 of ISS on ‘Gender Studies’.
The Department of Sociology University of Jammu the Discipline of Sociology in the State of J&K and North West Sociological Association (NWISA) feel proud of her being elevated to distinguished position at the national level.
