Dear Editor,
Why should India keep prioritising Palestine over Israel when we have developed a deep understanding for each others’ concern for being the targets of terrorists? What is wrong if our Foreign Office was apoplectic after seeing the Palestine envoy sharing stage with a UN-branded terror mastermind, Saeed, and bringing the Palestinians to their knees? Keeping in view our security concerns, we can rely on Israel because the USA and now even Russia are playing diplomatic games with us and Pakistan, despite the fact that the terrorists are trained and armed by the Pakistan Army. By siding with the Arabs and Palestinians and going against the interests of Israel, we will appear to be pleasing Islamic nations, to appease our own one religious minority. In our past conflicts with Pakistan, all Arab countries have sided with Pakistan because of the co-religiosity. India should have shown solidarity with Israel by not voting in favour of the UN Resolution on Jerusalem – even an abstention – may not have offended the Israelis much. Our giving preference to Palestine over Israel will not stand us in good stead.
