Major city squares and prominent roads in Jammu are wearing a festive look with traffic showing a semblance of discipline in the otherwise chaotic ambience. The alert men in blues are visible all over managing the traffic, a phenomenon unknown to this part of the country. The first thought striking the minds of commuters and vehicle pliers goes to the change of the government but the huge banners greeting with ‘Road Safety Week’ unfold the truth behind this welcome change. However, the city peripheries continue to portray ‘routine and normal’ traffic management, which needs no elucidation.
Is it a matter of pride or shame to observe the rituals with such a fanfare notwithstanding the fact that nothing is going to change for real?
