POONCH: Pratham on Monday emerged as winner in the Cadet boys’ singles final beating Zafer in a well contested game 2-1 in the ongoing 26th District Table Tennis Championship under the banner of J and K Table Tennis Association at Degree College complex, here. Both Pratham and Zafer put in best of their efforts to salvage win in the all important game. However, the closely contested game went in favour of Pratham, who made it a 2-1 victory with detailed score being 11-09, 09-11, 11-08.
Meanwhile, in Sub Junior boys’ event, Ajun shall take on Safwan in the title clash slated for tomorrow. Earlier, in the semifinals, decided today, Anuj beat Zaffer in equal straight sets of 11-07, 11-07 while Safwan trounced Krishan 2-0 (11-04, 11-08). In preliminary round, Ajun beat Ridhik 11-03, 11-04 and Zafar beat Pratham 2-1 (06-11, 13-11, 11-09. Krishan beat Nipun 11-08, 11-05 and Safwan outplayed Akarshit 11-03, 11-08.
The finalists have been also been spotted in Junior boys group after Faisal and Anuj won their respective semifinals. Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, Faizal beat Zafar 11-03, 11-06 and Anuj downed Asan 11-09, 11-08. The Preliminary Round: Faisal bt Safwan 11-03, 11-07, Anuj bt Pratham 11-09, 11-07; Hassan bt Nipun 11-09, 11-09; Zafar bt Akshit 11-05, 11-09.
In the meantime, General Secretary of the District Table Tennis Association, Saleem Bandey informed that the men’s singles and doubles matches have been scheduled for tomorrow.
