JAMMU: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, Gov-ernment of India, today handed over two projects of great public importance in Jammu Province, reaffirming its commitment to infrastructure development and to providing essential amenities in the fields of education, hygiene, and healthcare.
In two separate functions held today, POWERGRID handed over four blocks of ultra-modern toilet com-plexes comprising a total of 16 toilets to PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Nud Samba.
The facilities were handed over by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, POWERGRID, Northern Region-II, and Jasbir Singh, Executive Director, CC-CSR, POWERGRID, to Dr. D. S. Saklani, Vice Principal, JNV, in the presence of senior POWERGRID officers, school staff, and students of JNV.
The project, executed by POWERGRID through an MoU with JKPCC/JKPWD at an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh, was undertaken under POWERGRID’s CSR initiative in response to the school’s request for improved sanitation facilities.
The initiative aims to create a healthier, safer, and more inclusive environment for students while promoting health and hygiene awareness in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission and the CSR thrust area of “Promoting Education.”The enhanced infrastructure will particularly benefit girl students by improving at-tendance and reducing barriers to education.
On this occasion, the students presented a colourful cultural programme, expressing their joy and gratitude. The Vice Principal and staff of JNV also extended heartfelt thanks to POWERGRID for their support in fulfilling this vital need.
In another significant CSR initiative, POWERGRID handed over a 128 Slice CT Scan Machine to the Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua, and its associated hospital to strengthen medical infra-structure in the region.
The hi-end CT scanner was formally handed over by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, POWERGRID, Northern Region-II, and Jasbir Singh, Executive Director, CC-CSR, POWERGRID, to Dr. Surinder K. Atri, Principal, GMC Kathua, in the presence of Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, senior POWERGRID officers, and the medical fraternity of GMC Kathua.
Valued at approximately Rs 7 crore, this advanced diagnostic equipment will significantly enhance healthcare delivery in Kathua district and adjoining regions of Jammu, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.
Given that GMC Kathua serves as the primary tertiary healthcare facility for the area, the installation of this state-of-the-art machine will ensure timely and accurate diagnostic services, reducing the need for patients to travel to Jammu or Pathankot for advanced scans.
The Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, and the Principal, GMC Kathua, expressed deep appreciation to POW-ERGRID for this valuable contribution and encouraged continued collaboration in strengthening public health infrastructure across Jammu Division.
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mandate, POWERGRID prioritizes the health sector as a key thrust area, particularly focusing on government hospitals in both rural and urban areas. Believing that robust healthcare infrastructure is essential for community well-being, POWERGRID has, over the past three years, undertaken numerous CSR initiatives in Jammu Province worth Rs 31 crore.
