Poonch boy on board, Indian youth volleyball team departs for Sri Lanka

AHMEDABAD: It is the proud moment for the State of Jammu and Kashmir that after Parvez Rasool’s participation in the international cricket, a young and energetic youth from the State finally made its place in the National Volleyball Team. Saqlain Tariq is first entry in Indian Volleyball Team from J and K.
Six feet three inch tall, seventeen year old Poonch boy Saqlain Tariq, from the remote district of Poonch, is the talented volleyball player who has been selected as the member of the final team to play in 10th Youth Asian Volleyball Championship 2014, from 5th to 13th September, in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Indian under-18 Volleyball team on Wednesday left from Gandhi Nagar Ahmedabad to Colombo Srilanka to take part in the championship.
This competition will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo and India has been drawn in Pool B along with Qatar, Iran and Bahrain.
The Indian outfit will face their first pool match on 6th September against Bahrain.
A total of 15 teams are divided into three pools of four teams and one pool of three.
Iran is the most-decorated team in the competition with six gold medals. South Korea, India and Chinese Taipei have won one time.
The top three teams of this championship will stand the chance of qualifying for the World Cup Youth Boys’ Volleyball Championship in 2015.
