JAMMU: Keeping in view the growing population of Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees in and around Jammu city, the police is soon going to start the process of preparing their comprehensive database to keep a tight vigil on their ‘suspicious’ activities.
The local police stations under whose jurisdictions small colonies of these foreigners have come up in and around Jammu would be directed to prepare a list of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis till the time a decision is taken on their deportation to their native places.
Highly placed police sources told the STATE TIMES that the growing number of Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees has raised alarm bells in the security establishment and in order to prevent any mishap the police is expected to launch a special drive in the coming days to prepare list of these refugees.
According to rough estimates, around 5,000 refugees are camping in and around Jammu and have set up small colonies in Sidhra, Narwal, Bari Brahmana, Talab Tillo, Nagrota, Janipur and Rehari.
Senior lawyer Ankur Sharma had raised similar concerns, claiming police officers were facing a precarious situation as they were not aware of the credentials of these refugees.
Suggesting the move to prepare their comprehensive database would enable them to at least filter the miscreants from those who are mostly engaged in earning their livelihood by carrying out different jobs in the States’ winter capital.
Before reaching Jammu these refugees are told by their guides to reach Jammu as the place offers enough opportunities for labourers to earn their livelihood. Interestingly, some of the religious gurus have also been exported from these places in Myanmar to teach children of these refugees. Security experts have already warned the senior state police officers to ensure these refugees do not fall prey in the hands of OGW’s of militant outfits and ISI agents working in the State and are used as conduits for helping militants infiltrated inside the Indian territory to launch terror strikes.
