Suspected IED detected, defused in Kupwara

Srinagar: A police officer was martyred by terrorists while working in his paddy fields near his home in Pulwama district, officials said Saturday.
Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad Mir’s body was found in the paddy field near his home. Officials said Mir, a resident of Samboora in Pampore area of the south Kashmir district, was shot dead by terrorists on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

To pay tribute and respect to the martyr Sub Inspector Farooq Ahmad Mir, a wreath laying ceremony was held at CTC Lehtpora.
Senior police officers and family members of the martyr led by ADGP Armed/IR J&K SJM, Gillani laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the martyr for his supreme sacrifice.
Among others, DIG South Kashmir Range Abdul Jabbar, Commandant IRP 23 IR Bn, Atul Sharma, SSP Awantipora, Mohammad Yousif, Principal CTC Lehtpora, Tanveer Jeelani, Commandant 185 Bn CRPF Arun Kumar Jaitly and other senior officers and official of police paid floral tributes to the martyr.
Farooq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Samboora, Pamopre was appointed in Jammu and Kashmir Police in the year 1998 as constable and in 2008 he after qualifying the departmental examination was converted as Sgct (M), in 2012 he was promoted as HC (M) and in 2018 he was promoted as ASI (M). In December last year the officer was promoted as SI (M) and was posted as OSI in IRP 23 Bn. He is survived by an aged father, two daughters, the elder one is studying MBBS and younger daughter is studying in class 12th. His son is studying in class 7th. “J&K Police Pariwar pays rich tributes to the martyr and will stand by his family & provide all possible help and assistance to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Security forces detected and defused a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Kupwara district, officials said.
They detected the suspected IED on the Handwara-Baramulla Road near Ganapora in Langate area of the north Kashmir district, the officials said.
They said a bomb disposal squad was called in to the spot which destroyed the explosive device without causing any of loss or damage.
