KATRA: The fifth Convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, Jammu and Kashmir will be held in the Matrika Auditorium of University campus on 19th April, 2016.
Symbolising the culmination of diligent efforts and the beginning of a new life, the University has already held four convocations in which degrees and medals have been conferred upon students of various disciplines.
In the fifth Convocation, a total of 837 students have qualified for award of degrees including 504 for Bachelor’s Degree in different disciplines; 305 students for Master’s Degree and 28 students for the award of Ph.D. Degree. A total of 22 Medals and 20 Certificates of Distinction are also being awarded at this Convocation.
The fifth Convocation of SMVDU will be addressed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who will be giving away the Chancellor’s Gold Medal to five students; Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal to one student; Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Medal to four students; Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Medal Best Girl student to two students; University Silver Medals to ten students; Certificate of Distinction to twenty students and Infosys Foundation Prize for Excellence to sixteen girl students.
N.N Vohra, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who is also the Chancellor of University will confer degrees on students, which are, Doctor of Philosophy in Management, Mathematics, Physics, Biotechnology, English, Philosophy, Computer Science & Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering; Master of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering; Master of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration in Business Economics; Master of Science in Mathematics, Physics and Biotechnology; Master of Arts in English and Philosophy; Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology and Bachelor of Architecture.
Mehbooba Mufti, Chief Minister will also grace the fifth Convocation by her august presence and will also address the degree recipients. The Convocation will also be attended by the dignitaries from the State and other parts of the country. The Convocation will commence with Academic Procession which will comprise Chief Guest, Chancellor, Chief Minister, Vice Chancellor, members of Executive Council and Academic Council, led by Registrar of SMVDU.
