‘Will fight terror, corruption, caste based discrimination’

JAMMU: To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of ‘Quit India Movement’ and in observance of 70th year of India’s Independence’, students, faculty, officers and staff members of the University of Jammu today pledged to work for terrorism-free, caste-free, corruption-free, uncleanliness-free and poverty-free society as envisaged by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The pledge was taken across the country as per the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has exhorted the compatriots to contribute something for the nation. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and University Grants Commission (UGC) asked all the higher educational institutions to help in making this movement successful. The pledge taking ceremony, organised by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, was a part of this initiative of the MHRD and UGC. The occasion is being celebrated in a grand manner in the University of Jammu. For this purpose, an elaborate programme has been chalked out. Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, Prof. Keshav Sharma conducted the ceremony by reading out the pledge which was responded and repeated by gathering, enthused with patriotic fervour. He invoked a sense a belonging for the nation and called upon the gathering to act positively and progressively for the betterment of the nation.
Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, dwelt upon the Quit India Movement and Freedom Struggle and also apprised about university’s vision to conduct different programmes in this regard. These include talks by eminent educationists, tours to the memorials of freedom fighters and martyrs and celebration of the Independence Day with patriotic fervour, she added. The first event in the series, Mass Pledge Taking Ceremony, was attended by a huge gathering of teachers, officers, students, scholars and the employees of the University of Jammu.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. S.K Pandita, Prof. Kamal K. Kapoor, Dr. Parmil Kumar, Dr. A.R Manhas and Sumeet Sharma. The sound was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur and the event was conducted by Ramneet Kour.
