PK concerned over Rohingyas’ settlement on state land

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Panun Kashmir expressed concern over the settlement of Myanmar refugees on the outskirts of Jammu. In a meeting held in Jammu to take note of growing concern over the presence of foreigners from Bangladesh and Myanmar, the convener of Panun Kashmir Ravinder Jalali said that such a development is dangerous and threat to the security of the already disturbed State.
“These Rohingya Muslim Refugees, who flee from Myanmar because of their persecution, are easy to fall prey to radicalisation of extremist groups like LeT and ISIS”, he added.
The President Vijay Bhat alleged that these refugees are helped by some NGOs in providing them education in Madrassas where the children are radicalised. “Earlier it was being taken as casual and mere rumour and the Government did not pay any heed to redress the problem. Now the Government has already accepted their presence and it was reported by former chief minister in State Assembly that there are 4912 Rohingya Refugees living in Jammu with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards while 186 of them are unregistered. Interestingly most of the refugees are living in Narwal Bala area on the outskirts of Jammu city”, he maintained. He however appreciated the police for making a list of the Rohingya refugees to keep a watch on their activities in Jammu.
He questioned, “Who brings and guides them to Jammu? How they could travel to such a far off place from Myanmar?”
“The strange and interesting feature is that Kashmir centric politicians and separatists are extending all the help to these refugees and did not raise such issue but are opposing tooth and nail over giving DCs to West Pakistani Refugees, who are living here for the more than 70 years, return of Kashmiri Pandits to their Valley and establishment of Sainik Colony in Kashmir”, said Bhat.
