JAMMU: Department of Physical Education clinched the men’s volleyball title in the ongoing inter-department sports meet, organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu on the campus grounds, here on Wednesday.
In the final, Physical Education trounced Department of MCA in straight sets of 25-22, 25-21, 25-20. Earlier, in the semifinals, Physical Education defeated Department of Environmental Sciences 2-0 (25-10, 25-09) while MCA beat Department of Geography 2-1 (25-21, 18-25, 25-23). The CEO of Volleyball Association of J and K, Kuldip Magotra was Special Guest in the final, who along with Director Sports, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau encouraged the finalist teams. Also present were Amit Sharma, Romesh Sharma and Dr Brij Baloria.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical panel comprising Amit Sharma, Vikas Karlopia, Manu Singh Pawar and Priya Choudhary.
BADMINTON: Meanwhile, in the inter-department badminton (men and women) event, Department of Geography shall take on Department of Economics in women final. In the semifinals, Economics defeated Department of Commerce 2-0: Prabhjyot Kour beat Diksha Gupta 21-02. Doubles: Prabhjyot Kour and Sughandhi defeated Diksha and Shivangi 21-03. In other semifinal, Department of Geography outplayed The Law School 2-1: Anita beat Sagufta 21-06. Doubles: Sagufta and Sayeeda defeated Anita and Neeraj 25 -23. Reverse Singles: Sayeeda beat Supriya 21-04.
MEN: In men’s category, semifinals position has been cleared.
In the quarterfinals, played today, Geography beat Commerce 2 -0: Shagun defeated Mahmood 21-14. Doubles: Shagun and Anirudh outplayed Varinder and Satish by 21-03. Quarterfinals: Law School trounced Physics and Electronics 2-0: Chander Dev Singh downed Mahmood 21-14. Doubles: Chander Dev and Akeel Shah blanked Jangbhadur and Jagandeep Singh 21-07, 21-03. Physical Education and Sports beat Zoology 2-1. Economics Department defeated Bio-Technology 2-1.
CARROM (WOMEN):
The women’s carrom title went to Department of Geography beating Department of EVS 2-1. In the semifinals, Department of Geography beat Department of Psychology 2-0 and EVS Department defeated Department of Zoology 2-0. CARROM (MEN): The men’s carrom final won by Department of Economics beating Department of Chemistry 2-1.
