JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Simrandeep Singh on Saturday declared the 3-Day Photo Exhibition of Heritage Structures of Jammu themed “Dying Heritage” and titled “Check and Mate” closed. Over one hundred and fifty rare pictures taken by Sunny Dua were on display at Kala Kendra which was visited by several educational institutions and students studying architecture in Polytechnic colleges.
Padam Shree Balwant Thakur presided over the function while former Director Tourism and INTEC member S M Sahni was the Special Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Simrandeep Singh said that these rare pictures which are on display take one into the tour of old city which is rarely visited by all. These pictures also make one abreast with city’s that life and architecture which makes one proud of.
He while lauding the efforts of Sunny Dua said that such works speaks of one’s intellect beyond his or her academic excellences. This is for the first time another side of Jammu city has been brought to foreground and needs all appreciation. He said that such exhibitions must be taken to schools and colleges to make children learn about their past and legacy.
Padam Shree Balwant Thakur in his address appreciated Sunny Dua for connecting this exhibition with such historic buildings and dedicating the same to his philanthropist father Dr S S Dua in a manner that sets example for others to follow. He said this is a tribute to all those people who were once legends but are now forgotten. He hoped that this exhibition will become a stepping stone in protecting and protecting out art, culture and languages besides heritage including architecture.
A vote of thanks was presented by Sunny Dua who said that it’s a work of three and a half years and resolved to come out with new project on different theme to project hidden treasures of Jammu and Kashmir State before the world. Baldev Khullar of Jammu Heritage Society conducted the programme. Earlier, in the day various school children visited the exhibition and showed their interest in architectural grandeur.
