Petty politics over PM’s Siachen, Srinagar visits

Dear Editor,
It is strange that certain politicians are programmed to see every move of their adversaries through the political prism only. Thus, they try to see ulterior motives even in the goodwill gestures of their opponents. As the Head of the Government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has every right to choose his priorities, and hence his visit to Siachen and Srinagar on Diwali appears anything but political.
If any move, casually earning some brownie points, is done in the public interest, it should not be criticised. During his visit, the Prime Minister didn’t try to cash in on the occasion by criticising his opponents, but he listened to the grievances of the people of Kashmir.
Prime Minister Modi’s preference for spending Diwali with our soldiers at the Siachen heights rather than enjoying the festival at home merits praise, as it will encourage our soldiers, and boost their morale.
