People protest against DC, demand relief

UDHAMPUR: Thousands of flood affected people of Udhampur led by Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party President and MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia held a protest and took out a rally through the main bazaars of city, bringing all activity to stand still. The people were protesting against the total collapse of district administration in relief and rescue of the flood affected population of Udhampur District and demanded immediate removal of the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur.
The protesters alleged that district administration has failed to distribute relief among the flood sufferers and except for doing aerial surveys nothing was being done on ground to provide succour to the suffering masses. They said that no ration, tents, blankets, drinking water, electricity supply has been restored to any area in the district and Deputy Commissioner was busy in doing indoor meetings and getting her photographs published.
They blamed her for death of more than 40 and missing of about 100 men in Panchari area and demanded registration of an FIR against DC Udhampur.
Addressing the protestors, NPP President and MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia said that district administration has failed to respond to the unprecedented flood situation as the Deputy Commissioner failed to perform her duty as a responsible officer. He said that Central Govt should immediately deploy efficient officers to handle the situation and provide relief and rehabilitation to the affected public.
He further said that already a memorandum has been sent to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking effective measures to tackle the situation.
