JAMMU: As a part of observance of 28th Road Safety Week, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in collaboration with Taxi Operator Union, Railway Police, transporters and other stakeholders organised a health awareness camp for drivers and conductors here on Tuesday .
Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma was the Chief Guest while Minister of State for Tourism, Priya Sethi was the Guest of Honour and Member Legislative Council, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa was special invitee on the occasion.
Sunil urged all the stakeholders especially youth to rededicate their efforts towards effective traffic management movement for own comfort and convenience.
“Traffic management is a system where the role of people becomes key in ensuring smooth transport flow for their own safety and security”, he maintained.
The minister appreciated the overwhelming participation of drivers, conductors and other people associated with transport sector in the event and hoped that they will further disseminate this crucial knowledge among their friends and relatives. The minister stressed for strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations for smooth flow of traffic thus containing the possibilities of frequent road accidents. Priya Sethi emphasised the importance of following road safety rules besides dissemination of awareness about the significance of observing these laws. On the occasion free medical camps were organised by the Directorate of Indian System of Medicines, Red Cross, Civil Defence in which large number of drivers and conductors were examined by the doctors and provided free medicines.
Additional Transport Commissioner, Ajay Singh Jamwal, RTO, Jammu, Ashwani Kumar Khajuria, SSP Railway, Rajinder Gupta and ARTO Swarn Singh were present on the occasion.
