People should declare income correctly before closure of scheme: Member CBDT;Inaugurates Income Tax Office-cum-Guest House

KATRA: Senior Board Member, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), New Delhi, Rani Singh Nair, a 1979 batch IRS officer, on Sunday asked people to declare their income correctly before the closure of Income Declaration Scheme, 2016.
“All those persons who have not declared their income correctly in the past should come forward and declare such undisclosed income before the closure of scheme and play their honest role as a citizen in nation building,” Rani Singh Nair said after inaugurating Income Tax office-cum-Guest House, here on Sunday. To highlight the one time opportunity offered to the people under the scheme, Rani Singh also advised the Income Tax Officer, Katra, Dharmender Gupta to put all out efforts to sensitise the masses about the benefits of the scheme which is going to end on 30th September, 2016. She was accompanied by Rajendra Kumar, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, (NWR) Chandigarh, Ajay Singh, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar, Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J and K, Jammu, R.N Sahay, Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals), Jammu and S.K Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu.
Rani Singh Nair appreciated the facilities being provided in the guest house by the Income Tax Department to the visiting guests/officers to the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. Rajendra Kumar also appreciated the efforts of Dharmender Gupta in maintaining such a good Office cum Guest House at Katra and protocol extended by him to the departmental visitors. Sangeeta Gupta stated that the benefit of this scheme should not only be taken by the existing tax payers/assessees but maximum by the non-filers or non-existing assessees. She added that department has already collected huge data with regard to financial transactions with a lot of data mining and profiling with the use of sophisticated electronic surveillance tools and after the closure of scheme the department will process the data and will initiate proceedings accordingly against the tax evaders. S.K Sharma presented the vote of thanks and in a communiqué to the media persons appealed that people should arise to the occasion and disclose their undisclosed income/assets/investments before the expiry of term of this scheme to get immunity under the Income Tax and Wealth Tax Act and to avoid scrutiny and other coercive actions by the department.
