STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Calling upon women to unite and supplement the fight against anti-people policies of the PDP-BJP Government that has failed in governing the State, Provincial President National Conference, Devender Singh Rana on Saturday said that coalition was raking up emotive issues to divert the attention of people from its failures.
“This trend has serious ramifications for unity and single entity of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh”, he said and exhorted the people in general and women in particular to see through the game-plan of PDP and BJP and foil their sinister machinations by maintaining peace and strengthening regional bonhomie. He said the coalition was working towards weakening the single entity of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rana was addressing a day long women convention at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here this afternoon, organised by former legislator and senior NC leader Bimla Luthra. The convention deliberated over issues pertaining to women and ways and means to carve out big role for them in the political arena.
“Unity in diversity is real strength of this State which can only grow and flourish when all segments of society are given equal opportunities of progress”, he added. He urged the National Conference rank and file to gear up for the upcoming civic elections in a big way and sought larger participation of in decision making.
“National Conference had pioneered 33 per cent reservation for women in grass roots level democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir and time has now come to open up more vistas for them”, he added.
Rana lauded the productive role of women in politics and said the day is not far when they will excel in this field as well like they are doing in academics and other spheres of life. He said empowerment of women will lead to emancipation of the society at large. He referred to the crucial contribution of the women in State politics and said Begum Abdullah was an inspiring example of leading the premier political party during most testing times when Sher-e-Kashmir had been put behind the bars.
“NC has espoused the cause of women, strived for freeing them from the shackles of ignorance by promoting female literacy and generating opportunities in employment and other activities”, he maintained.
Speaking on the occasion, Bimla Luthra assured the party leadership that the cadre was prepared to meet any challenge single-mindedly. She said women will continue to play their role in highlighting the gray areas confronted to people and seek their redressal.
Luthra cautioned Coalition Government against attempts to divide the State on religious or regional lines and said the misadventure of testing the patience of people is bound to boomerang. Instead of inciting passions, the government should come to brasstracks of governance, she added.
National Conference senior leaders Rattan Lal Gupta, Th Kashmira Singh, Babu Rampal, Sheikh Bashir and Satwant Kour Dogra were among those who addressed the day long convention.
Those present on the occasion included Sheikh Abdul Rehman Ex-MP, Brij Mohan Sharma Ex MLC, Bushan Lal Bhat Ex MLC, Ayub Malik, Anil Dhar, Rakesh Singh Raka, Abdul Gani Teli, Assiar Khan, Som Raj Taroch, Pankaj Kohli, Ashaanand, Zulekha, M.L Munshi and Ashok Singh Manhas.
