PDP-BJP duo fails in filling up huge vacancies of doctors, para-medics

JAMMU: The PDP-BJP alliance government may have been reiterating its commitment with regard to fast track recruitment to vacancies in the Health and Medical Education Department but at present the two premiere health institutions, Government Medical Colleges in Jammu and Srinagar, are having 3,670 vacancies at different levels.
In all 726 posts of doctors are lying vacant in the Kashmir region and 855 in the Jammu province.
According to official sources, 163 posts of faculty, 423 posts of para-medical staff, 136 posts of ministerial staff, 535 posts of nursing staff, 453 posts of class IV and 118 posts of Safai Karamcharis are lying vacant in Government Medical College, Jammu.
Similarly, in Srinagar Medical College, 34 posts of Professors, 31 posts of Associate Professors, 60 posts of Assistant Professors, 157 posts of Lecturer/Medical Physicists, 63 posts of Registrars, 90 posts of Assistant Surgeons, 897 posts of Pharmacists are lying vacant.
Indira Gandhi Government Dental College is also facing acute staff crunch. Out of sanctioned strength of 95, only 68 positions have been filled while 27 are left vacant.
According to official sources, out of 2,364 posts of doctors in the Health Department, only 1,638 staff positions are occupied while 726 posts are lying vacant while 1,672 posts of paramedical staff are lying vacant in Kashmir division.
In Jammu province out of 2,003 posts only 1,148 posts are occupied while 855 are lying vacant.
