PDD casual workers’ march towards Dy CM’s residence foiled

JAMMU: Daily rated and casual workers of Power Development Department (PDD) were scuffle with police during a protest rally taken out against the government near Canal Head here on Monday.
A large number of daily wagers assembled in the office of Chief Engineer at Bagwati Nagar in the morning and started protest. They raised loud slogans against the government and also in support of their pending demands. They were demanding regularization and framing a definite policy for it. The agitating workers were also demanded release of their pending wages and enhancement in their daily wage rate.
The protesting daily wagers then took out a protest march towards the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister. As they reached Canal Head, a strong contingent of State police stopped them. The protesting workers tried to break the police cordon who were cane charged by the police. Protesting leaders, while addressing workers, alleged that government has failed to honour its commitment. They said the workers have not been paid their wages since long. They also alleged that regularization process has not been completed and no definite policy as promised by the government has been framed.
They claimed that the workers would now further intensify their strike. The protest was led by Union President Akhil Sharrmi and addressed by Shesh Kumar, Vishal, Ashish Verma, Ashwani Kumar, Naresh Sharma, Sharmher Singh and Simranjeet Singh.
