PDD AEE caught red handed

JAMMU: An Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Electric Maintenance Power Development Department Division Udhampur has been arrested for demanding and accepting Rs.20,000 from a complainant in lieu of shutting down the power supply for executing/completing the felling of Eucalyptus trees at Dhar Road (Domail), Udhampur.
FIR 03/2017 P/S VOJ has been registered against AEE Sanjay Gupta and he has been taken into custody for further investigations.
One Sanjay Kumar, son of Girdhari Lal, resident of Sunal Tehsil Majalta lodged a complaint against. Sanjay Gupta, AEE Electric Maintenance Division Udhampur alleging that he was allotted felling work of Standing Eucalyptus trees at Dhar Road (Domail) Udhampur by the SFC Jammu vide Work Order No. 2397-2402/DM/Ext/SFC/J dated December, 17 2016 which was further extended for a period of 20 days by SFC Jammu vide letter dated January 20, 2017.
Since more trees were coming under the HT lines, LT lines and 33 KV lines passing through trees at Dhar Road (Domail) to Udhampur and as such the Divisional Manager Ext SFC Jammu vide letter No. 2406-9/DM/Ext/SFC/J dated Dec 17, 2016 has requested Executive Engineer Electric Maintenance Division Udhampur to shut down the power supply during felling operation in the said area on proper schedule so that the felling work is executed/completed well in time. Accordingly, the complainant Sanjay Kumar approached Sanjay Gupta, AEE Electric Maintenance Division Udhampur and requested him to shut down the power as per request of SFC. AEE Sanjay Gupta projected a demand of Rs. 32,000 for shutting the power supply. The complainant expressed inability to arrange such a huge amount and finally the matter was settled for Rs. 20,000. The complainant under compelling circumstances paid Rs. 20,000 as bribe to AEE Sanjay Gupta.
On this complaint, a trap team was constituted to nab the accused AEE Sanjay Gupta on the spot.
