JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) on Wednesday held a protest here against the non-payment of salaries of SSA/RMSA teachers pending for the last six months.
A large number of activists led by Chairman, Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum, Abdul Quyoom Wani assembled in Press Club Jammu and raised anti-government slogans.
The protesting employees marched towards Civil Secretariat but the police swung into action and foiled the protest march by using force.
Speaking on the occasion, Wani along with Ganesh Khujuria lambasted the roll of HRD Ministry and the State Government for their apathy towards the sensitive issue of stagnant salaries.
Showing his serious concern over the continuous delay in the payment of salaries of teachers, Wani declared it as a tyrant issue of human rights violation.
The issue need the topmost priority but the negligent and non serious attitude of the people at the helm of affairs has adversely affected the economy of the suffering teachers and the schooling of their children, he alleged.
Wani warned the State and Central Government to release the pending salaries within few days otherwise the government has to face the ire of the lakh of employees.
Wani asked the HRD Ministry to release second installment of SSA/RMSA salaries amounting to Rs 800 crores or face the protest of 500 activists who will march to Jantar Mantar New Delhi on 10th of January 2015.
Both Wani and Ganesh Khujuria lauded the role of Nirmal Sharma the Commissioner Secretary Education and Shameem Ahmad Laherwal Director SSA for their serious concern regarding the issue of salaries.
Among others who spoke on the occasion were Gopal Sharma, Rajinder Gupta, Darshan Sharma, Satish Dutta, Darshan Sungh, Yograj Singh, Rajeshwar Singh, Surat Singh Toofani, Jamayat Ali Aga, Roop Lal, Bashir Ahmad, Deepak, Ramdir Singh and Ram Prashad.
