Par standing committee on 3-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar: A Parliame-ntary Standing Committee on Water Resources arrived here on Monday on a three-day visit to assess the issues concerning flood management, and relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by last year’s deluge.
“During its stay in Kashmir, members of the panel, headed by MP Hukum Singh, would review the progress of comprehensive plan for flood management on River Jhelum Phase-I with the State Government officials,” an official spokesman said.
He said the 31-member panel would also review flood management and flood forecasting, disaster management initiatives, ground water scenario, command area development and water management projects in the State.
The members would also undertake field visits to various flood-affected areas in Srinagar, besides on-the-spot review of works pertaining to flood protection along river Jhelum and various flood-spill channels in the Valley, the spokesman said.
The members of the Committee include, Tariq Hameed Karra, Radheshyam Biswas, Devusinh Chauhan, Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria, Vinod Kumar, Murali Mohan Maganti, Sidhant Mohapatra, Abhijit Mukherjee, Rodmal Nagar, Subhash Patel, Sanjay Kaka Patil, Vijaysinh Shankarrao Mohite Patil, Aparupa Poddar, Vishnu Dayal Ram, S.P.Y Reddy, Ram Prasad Sarmah, Sathyabama V, Lallu Singh, L.K Vaghela, Dimple Yadav, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Anil Madhav Dave, Naznin Faruque, Mir Mohammad Fayaz, Sanjiv Kumar, Prof Mrinal Miri, V Hanumantha Rao, Amar Shankar Sable, A V Swamy and Lal Sinh Vadodia.
