Pappu Yadav demands abolishing Rajya Sabha, Legislative

Patna:- A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pitched for abolishing the Governor’s post, MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav today demanded that the Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Councils be removed as these are a “total waste of hard-earned public money”.

“Both the Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Councils in the states should be abolished as these are arrangements made by British regime and are no longer required,” he said here.

“I will raise this issue in the Monsoon session of Parliament. I will also file a PIL in the Supreme Court for abolishing the arrangements of the Rajya Sabha and the Councils,” said the MP from Madhepura.

Alleging that rich people try to be in the Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Councils merely on basis of money power, Yadav said, “The Upper Houses both at the Centre and in the states are no longer required as it is a complete waste of hard-earned public money.

“Rather, the money should be spent on education and health,” he said.

The Bihar Chief Minister had made the demand for abolishing the Governor’s post at the Inter-State Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi stating that the existing federal democratic structure does not warrant its continuance.

Referring to Kumar’s demand, Yadav said the government should first scrap the system of Rajya Sabha and Legislative Councils before abolishing the post of Governor.

Both the Central and state governments should explain as to why they have continued with the arrangement that was made by Britishers, Yadav said.
