Dear Editor,
The recent Pentagon report to the US Congress said that Pakistan has used Afghanistan-India-focussed militants to achieve its goals in the region.
It also said that the attack on the Indian consulate in Herat earlier in the year was carried out by Lashkar-e-Tayyeba three days before Narendra Modi’s swearing-in as the Prime Minister. The Taliban was fine till it served Pakistan’s Afghanistan plot, but after it turned its guns on Pakistan, the Army was left with no choice but to retaliate.
Jihadi groups like the Lashkar, which perpetrated the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, have the patronage of Islamabad and Rawalpindi because they serve Pakistan’s Kashmir goal. In 2011, the then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, had told the US Congress that the Haqqani network “acts as a veritable arm of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency”. With the unambiguous indictment of Pakistan in the Pentagon report for continued operation of Afghan- India-focussed militants from Pakistani territory, it is high time the Obama administration reviews its policy towards its deceitful war-on-terror ally, which in fact is a patron of the
terrorists.
