CUTTACK: Sanjay Pahal of Haryana picked up four wickets as Jammu and Kashmir were bundled for 262 in 88.1 overs at Barabati Stadium before being made to follow-on, having conceded a first-innings lead of 240 runs.
Earlier, Rajat Paliwal played a marathon knock of 194 as Haryana took complete control of their Ranji Trophy Group C encounter against Jammu and Kashmir by posting a formidable first innings’ total of 502 on the second day.
Having resumed at a seemingly steady 84 for 1, J&K lost their way after Shubham Khajuria, the opener, fell soon on the third day for 52 – an addition of four runs to his overnight score.
A middle-order collapse ensued and J&K were reduced to 145 for 5. Pranav Gupta, resuming the day at 25, ground out 94 runs and stitched a 65-run stand with Puneet Bisht for the sixth wicket, before the latter fell to Pahal. The lower-order was not able to offer much resistance and after Pranav fell to debutant Shivam Chauhan’s right-arm pace, Haryana had little trouble wrapping up the innings. After being asked to bat again, Khajuria and Umar Nazir, the opener, playing cautiously, taking the team to 38 for no loss at stumps. Still trailing by 202 runs, J&K will have their task cut out to avoid defeat on the fourth day. (PTI)
