“According to the data available till 31 December 2014 from the Calcutta High Court, 286306 cases are pending before the Calcutta high Court, of which 230697 cases are civil and 55609 are criminal cases,” Bhattacharya told the assembly.
“2556461 cases are pending in the lower courts of the state, of which 563430 are civil cases and 1993031 criminal cases,” Bhattacharya said.
The minister said that the state government has no role to play in the disposal of the cases.
“Considering the proposals of the honourable High court, the government always take steps in setting up of new courts and recruitments of judges,” Bhattacharya said.
