Open historic route of Kargil-Skardu: MLA

STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Once again recalling the voice for long pending demand of the people of Kargil, Member Legislative Assembly Kargil Asgar Karbalai on Thursday raised the demand of the opening of Kargil-Skardu Road in the Legislative Assembly.
During the debate on Industries and Commerce MLA Kargil said that in Ladakh region there is no such industry despite of being very rich in Minerals in terms of granite and cement.
He further said that the thousand years old historic traditional roads of Kargil to Skardu must be open. He said, “There are more than 5,000 divided families in Kargil and Skardu who didn’t met since decades. Now the government must raise the issue with its counterparts on other side and open this route on humanitarian grounds”. “We have no such industries in Kargil although we have enough amount of Grenide which can help even the state and country to boost the economy including Kargil district but there is a need to take such concrete step,” Karbalai said. Citing the messages received from Journalists from Skardu MLA Kargil has said that our people on other side are also demanding the same for decades.
“I am receiving audio messages from Journalists of Skardu and they too are demanding this road must be opened,” Karbalai said.
“The routes of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawlakote are already opened but despite of no such security threat these routes are not being opened yet,” he further added.
It is worth to mention here that the people of Ladakh and Gilgit Baltistan were having same historical, cultural and lingual bindings for much decade. Since independence the people of these areas are deprived to have any kind of direct access to meet on both sides following the pattern of International borders and line of control. Their deprivation on such access to meet each other is indicating a sense that both the countries have lack of trust on the people in these regions.
