Excise Deptt nabs man with 1,464 IMFL liquor bottles imported from Chandigarh

KATHUA: A team of Excise Department at Lakhanpur under the overall supervision of Worthy Excise Commissioner J&K Subhash Chibber has recovered 122 cases/ 1464 Bottles of IMFL for sale in Chandigarh , at Erstwhile Toll-post Lakhanpur.

On 16/09/2025 an Lakhanpur excise team under the close supervision of  DEC(Accounts) Jammu Additional Charge, DEC, Toll Post Lakhanpur, Tinna Mahajan  established a late night naka at Lakhanpur, Kathua area to keep a check on inflow of illicit liquour smuggling.

During naka duty, the Lakhanpur excise team consisting of Inspector Razi Ahmed, Inspector Dharamvir , SI Akhil Kanathia, SI Atul Jamwal along with HG Rakesh Kumar , EG Hans Raj, Kanwar Dutt, Gulshan Kumar, Akeel Ahmed, Mohinder Kumar noticed one vehicle Mahindra Bolero-PIK UP bearing number LA02 5488 under suspicious manner. On being stopped was questioned, and the vehicle on being checked was carrying  illicit liquor for sale in Chandigarh . Details of Seized Items

1.  Royal Stag Superior Whisky 750 ml   25 Cases (300 Bottles)

2.  Old Monk Extra Special XXX Classic Rum  08 Cases (96 Bottles)

3. 111 Ace Rum 750 ml     36 Cases (432 Bottles)

4.  999 Powerstar Fine Rum 750 ml  53 Cases (636 Bottles)

Accordingly, the excise team taking cognisance, contacted the concerned ETO Kathua Range Mudasir Nazir and Excise Sub-Range Inspector Dheeraj Pathania accompanied by Excise Inspector Sumit Chaudhary and Karan Chagotra, a case u/s 48(a), 50(1), 56 was registered as well as accused were taken into custody on the spot by the team of Excise Range Kathua. The recovered contraband has been seized as per legal procedures, and further investigation is in progress to trace the source and linkages of the illicit liquor through these smuggling networks.
