JAMMU: Continuing with its protest against Jammu University (JU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof R. D Sharma on seventh consecutive day, activists of National Panthers Student Union (NPSU) on Wednesday burnt his effigy here.
Addressing the NPSU activists, Thakur Virender Singh State President NPSU alleged that JU VC has been promoting favouritism by his lop-sided attitude towards certain sections especially those who have backing of high profile political leaders.
“As per statutes of JU, no student is allowed to undergo two courses simultaneously but even after few cases being brought to the knowledge of VC, he refused to take any action against the defaulters”, said Singh. It is also a known fact that the said Vice-Chancellor has already set aside the recommendations of Jammu University Council and Lyngdoh Committee besides dishonouring the directions of Supreme Court while conducting JURSEA elections.
NPSU served an ultimatum of 48 hours to VC for clearing his stand on students undergoing two regular courses simultaneously which as per statutes of JU is not permissible.
NPSU has also decided to submit a representation to the Governor of the State seeking the removal of Vice Chancellor.
Lovely Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Amit Charak, Shubham Jasrotia and Sumit Singh were also present.
