JAMMU: National Panthers Student Union (NPSU) held a strong protest against State Government for failing to promote Dogri language and neglecting it completely.
The activists of NPSU gathered at main gate of University of Jammu and burnt the effigy of State Government amidst slogans.
The protest was led by Thakur Virender Singh, State President NPSU who said that this is really matter of concern that Dogri language is ignored completely since long as the fact is Dogri language is introduced in Eighth Schedule of Constitution of India.
He said that the students, scholars and other Dogri speaking people of Jammu had been demanding introduction of Dogri subject in the schools and colleges but nothing had been done by the government despite repeated assurances.
He further said that while Urdu language was being given a lot of weightage and Dogri language was being completely neglected.
He mentioned that while Kashmir based legislators raked up the issue of promoting Urdu and sought additional Urdu subject posts in schools and colleges, the BJP members failed to expose, the cause of Dogri.
He said that the students would be forced to intensify agitation if immediate steps were not initiated by the government to give Dogri its due place. While reacting to the statement given by MoS Education in reply to question raised by MLC yesterday during Assembly session he said it was totally misleading and false.
Singh said that how is it possible to teach a language in schools and colleges without language experts and lecturer.
Singh also said that MoS Education yesterday said that “this government have launched Dogri subject in schools”.
But on ground reality is that subject is launched and there are very few teachers to teach Dogri subject.
Singh added that the false statement of MoS shows that this government has nothing to do with Dogri language.
Singh said that the State Government to post Dogri lecturer and a Dogri Depart-ment must be launched in Central University in order to give due respect to Dogri subject so that it can survive in Jammu Pradesh. Others present were Lovely Singh, Keshav Sharma, Rishi Badyal, Sudesh Badyal, Chetan Sharma, Rudar Partap Singh, Amandeep Singh and Rajan Sharma.
