Northern Railway celebrates 150 years of Railway in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Division of Northern Railway organised its 60th Railway Week award function at State Entry Road Club here.

In the award ceremony, a total of 234 railway officials were felicitated for their meritorious services by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Northern Railway, New Delhi, Arun Arora.

This year, as a symbol of recognition for making stellar contribution to the railway working, 18 Northern Railway employees out of 234, were conferred ‘Delhi Division Star’ Honour. Apart from this, 11 group awards were presented by DRM, based on excellence in performance-oriented parameters.

Since the first train had arrived in Delhi on 1st August 1864 via Ghaziabad, the year 2015, marks the Sesquicentennial Celebrations-150 years of dedicated service to the nation by Delhi Division, Northern Railways (1864-2014). As a part of this endeavor, a special cover was released by the oldest pensioners of Delhi Division, in the presence of Arun Arora and Vasumitra, the Chief Post Master General, Delhi through the Department of Posts, which depicted the journey and growth of Delhi Division through these 150 years.

The highlight of the ceremony was the introduction of a new initiative called ‘The Railway Banyan Tree Honor’ which was a tribute to the more than 90 years old pensioners of Delhi Division of Northern Railway, and was awarded by DRM/DLI to the pensioners.

Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Railway Manager lauded the various achievements of Delhi Division during 2014-15 and further added that the drive to scale new heights should continue unabated as Delhi Division is the pace setter for Indian Railways.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operations), Dimpy Garg; Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Technical), R.C Gupta and President/NRWWO/Delhi Division, Madhu Arora besides branch heads of the various departments, railway officials and representatives of unions were present on the occasion.
